Allan Johnston “Chief Encouragement Officer” Award

Nominate someone who gives more than they receive in supporting Alaska entrepreneurs.

About the Award

The Allan Johnston “Chief Encouragement Officer” Award recognizes individuals who embody the spirit of giving more than they receive in supporting Alaska’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. Named in honor of Allan Johnston’s tireless dedication to encouraging and uplifting Alaska’s entrepreneurs, this award celebrates those whose support, mentorship, and advocacy have made a measurable difference in the lives of Alaska business builders.

This is not an award for the most successful entrepreneur or the largest donation. It is an award for the person who shows up consistently, who gives time and energy selflessly, and who makes others believe their ideas are worth pursuing.

Award Criteria

Nominees should demonstrate a sustained pattern of encouragement and support for Alaska’s entrepreneurs. The selection committee evaluates nominees based on:

Consistency

Demonstrates a sustained, ongoing commitment to supporting entrepreneurs, not just a single act or event.

Impact

Has made a tangible, positive difference in the entrepreneurial journeys of others. Impact can be broad (community-level) or deep (individual mentorship).

Selflessness

Gives more than they receive. The focus is on encouragement, not personal gain or recognition.

Reach

Supports entrepreneurs across barriers of geography, industry, experience level, background, or stage of business development.

Who Can Be Nominated

  • Mentors, advisors, and business coaches
  • Community organizers and volunteer leaders
  • Educators who inspire entrepreneurship in students
  • Government officials who champion small business policy
