Starting a Business – Juneau

Are you thinking about starting your own business?  This workshop was designed just for you!

 

Join us on WednesdayOctober 1, 2025 in Juneau for this In Person workshop on “Starting a Business” hosted by the Alaska Small Business Development Center (Alaska SBDC). During this workshop, our Juneau Center Director, Sandy Hussain, will walk you through the steps and what to consider when starting a small business.  Let the Alaska SBDC help guide you through the process of starting a small business.

In “Starting a Business,” you’ll learn about the initial steps and considerations for starting a small business, such as:

  • business licensing
  • legal forms of business
  • business record-keeping
  • hiring employees
  • business planning
  • access to financing

 

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:

Sandy Hussain, Juneau Center Director, Alaska Small Business Development Center (Alaska SBDC).  Sandy Hussain has over a decade of experience as an entrepreneur in the retail and technology sectors. As the founder and CEO of Fashion Digital, she led a premier thought leadership conference series in New York, Los Angeles, and LA.  Sandy thrives on helping businesses grow and scale, specializing in digital marketing, e-commerce, startups, business development, fundraising, and entrepreneurship. She holds a Master’s in Urban Planning from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with a minor in International Politics from Bryn Mawr College.  A passionate lifelong traveler and explorer, Sandy has lived in dynamic cities like New York, London, Boston, Philadelphia, San Diego, and Los Angeles before making her home in Juneau, Alaska.

You are registering for an In Person workshop located at the Juneau SBDC Office in Juneau, Alaska. Online registration is strongly recommended to attend this workshop.  The registration deadline is 11:45 am on Wednesday,  October 1, 2025.  In Person seating is limited, so please be sure to register early (see instructions below).  After attending the workshop, you will have unlimited access to any presentation materials or handouts that accompany the workshop (see instructions below).

REGISTERING WITH ALASKA SBDC & SIGNING IN:    Go to  aksbdc.org.   Click on  Login to the portal.
 
  • If you’ve never registered with Alaska SBDC before, WELCOME!  You’ll want to click on “Sign Up” under “New Account” and you’ll be guided through our registration questions.
  • For existing clients, WELCOME BACK!  Sign in under “Existing Account.”  

 

WORKSHOPS, FEES & ENTERING DISCOUNT CODES:

  • “No Fee” Workshops:  No credit card is required.  To access our workshops, click on “Workshops” from the menu on the left.  To register for a workshop, open it, click on “Sign Up” above the workshop title, and follow the prompts.  If this is an On Demand workshop, click on “To view the course.”  Enter your first name, last name, and email address.  Click on “Register.”  You’ll now have access to the workshop video.  If the audio is muted, click on the volume icon to unmute the volume.
  • Workshops with a Fee:  You’ll be prompted to enter your payment information.  If you have a “Discount Code” enter it in the “Coupon Code” box, and click “Save.”  Access to the workshop video and handouts will be available after payment has been processed. You’ll be emailed a receipt.  To access our workshops, click on “Workshops” from the menu on the left.  To register for a workshop, open it and click on “Sign Up” above the workshop title.  Click on “To view the course.”  Enter your first name, last name, and email address.  Click on “Register.”  You’ll now have access to the workshop video.  If the audio is muted, click on the volume icon to unmute the volume.

  • ALASKA SBDC CLIENTS:  Contact your Alaska SBDC Business Advisor for the “Advisor Discount Code” that allows you 25% off ALL workshop fees.  If you don’t currently have an Alaska SBDC Business Advisor, contact us at (907) 786-7201 to schedule an appointment with an Advisor… it’s free!

     

  • MILITARY/VETERANS & SPOUSES:  If you are a veteran, active-duty, reservist, National Guard, or any military member or spouse, please contact Alaska SBDC to request your “Military/Veteran/Spouse Discount Code” that allows you FREE access to ALL workshops through Dec. 31, 2025.  You served our country, now let us serve you!
  • PLEASE NOTE:  At the beginning of each year, on Jan. 1st, all discount codes are updated for the new year.  So, for example, if you received a discount code in 2024 and you are registering for a workshop in 2025, you will need to contact your SBDC Business Advisor for the 2025 discount code that takes effect on Jan. 1, 2025, and can be used for all workshops until Dec. 31, 2025.

 

ACCESSING PRESENTATION HANDOUTS:  

  • Once you’ve signed in, click on “My Events,” from the menu on the left.  Select the workshop from the list of workshops you’ve registered for.  Once you click to start playing the video training, the presentation slides and handouts will be made available.  Scroll down.  Below the “QUESTIONS OR TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES” section, you’ll see the list of any available presentation slides and/or handouts for that workshop to download and open.
